Ester Nurumi Moves to the Women's Doubles Sector
JAKARTA - The Central Management of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) has decided to rotate the badminton player Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo from the women's singles to the women's doubles and paired with Lanny Tria Mayasari.
Karel Mainaky as the head coach of the women's doubles said that this step was part of an effort to strengthen the depth of the Indonesian women's doubles squad.
"Currently we have three main pairs that show consistency in performance. However, we also have to prepare a layer that has the quality to compete at the international level," he said in a statement from the national badminton parent.
The decision to rotate Ester was made based on the results of a joint evaluation with the women's singles coaching team. They considered that the potential of the Papuan badminton player was more optimal if he played in the women's doubles.
Karel explained that Lanny was chosen as Ester's partner in the women's doubles because she had a character that could complement each other. He assessed that Lanny had the ability to be a playmaker in front, able to set the tempo, and open up attack opportunities.
"We hope that the combination of Ester's strength behind with Lanny's creativity in front can develop into a competitive pair," he said.
He further said that Ester's game character has many advantages that match the needs of modern doubles.
"Ester has good power from behind, a strong serve, accurate ball placement, and excellent movement and transition abilities. This capital is very important in the current women's doubles game pattern," he said.
The decision to unite Ester and Lanny is a big step from PBSI in rearranging the composition of players in the mixed doubles and women's doubles sectors. This is done as part of a strategy to strengthen Indonesia's competitiveness towards the achievement target at the international level.
In addition to restructuring Ester and Lanny, PBSI also decided to shift Apriyani Rahayu to the mixed doubles sector and pair up with Dejan Ferdinansyah.
Both the Apriyani/Dejan and Ester/Lanny pairs will undergo an evaluation period in a number of international tournaments. Apriyani/Dejan will be evaluated after six tournaments, while Ester/Lanny after five tournaments.
