Today Nasib Nadiem Makarim Determined, Corruption Court Reads Verdict in Chromebook Case

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim is scheduled to undergo a reading of the verdict (sentence) in the case of alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) at the Corruption Crime Court (Tipikor) Central Jakarta, Tuesday, June 30.

The trial, which will be held at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, will determine Nadiem's legal fate after going through a series of trials, ranging from reading the indictment, examination of witnesses, prosecutor's demands, to the defense of the defendant and his legal team.

In the reading of the duplicate hearing last week, Tuesday, June 23, Nadiem hopes that the panel of judges will pass a verdict based on conscience and the facts revealed during the trial.

"June 30 is my decision, Tuesday. History will record where our country is going and I hope, as I mentioned in my duplicate today, that the panel of judges will really follow their conscience," said Nadiem.

Meanwhile, Nadiem's lawyer, Ari Yusuf Amir, expressed optimism that his client would receive a free verdict. According to him, all the facts of the trial and legal analysis that support Nadiem's position have been presented in full before the panel of judges.

"We believe that all the facts of the trial have shown that our client did not commit the crime as charged," said Ari after the duplicate trial.

Ahead of the sentencing hearing, the Polda Metro Jaya and the Central Jakarta Metro Police have also prepared security around the Jakarta Central Tipikor Court to anticipate the course of the trial, which is expected to receive widespread attention from the public.

Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budhi Hermanto, said his party would deploy personnel to ensure that the trial was safe and conducive.

"Of course, the Metro Jaya Police will be ready to secure several important activities such as the verdict on Nadiem Makarim. We will consolidate and we will inform you as soon as possible the number of personnel deployed," said Budhi.
