Qatar Bans Shipping for Safety Reasons After US-Iran Attacks
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation of Qatar issued an important announcement asking boat users - including jet skis - to stop sailing until further notice for safety reasons.
The directive applies to "all owners and users of vessels, including recreational vessels, fishing vessels, jet skis, and all similar vessels," the ministry said, as reported by CNN, Monday, June 29.
His party said that ships subject to international maritime conventions were exempt from this rule and would continue to operate in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
The ministry said this step was a temporary preventive measure taken in coordination with the relevant security authorities. The ministry urged full compliance and said any updates would be announced through official channels.
The notice was issued a day after Qatar's Interior Ministry said a Qatari national on board the ship was killed by shrapnel from "military operations in the region."
According to the ministry, the victim was found after a maritime patrol launched a search for a ship that did not return on time during routine monitoring by the Directorate General of Coastal and Border Security.
The statement did not say whether the debris was related to an Iranian drone launched on Sunday, June 28, which targeted US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
