Who is Doctor Icha Pakaenoni? This is the chronology of alleged intimidation to suicide

JAKARTA - The case of the death of doctor Icha Pakaenoni, a doctor who served at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, North Central Timor Regency (TTU), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has become a public concern. The alleged intimidation experienced by the victim while carrying out medical service duties is said to be a series of events that led to the death of the young doctor.

The incident began on June 13, 2026 when Dr. Icha treated a child patient who was bitten by a snake at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital. During the patient's treatment, the victim's family was allegedly dissatisfied with the service provided, resulting in an argument at the hospital.

Based on various media reports, the situation then heated up until Dr. Icha was allegedly intimidated by a number of family members of the patient. The alleged intimidation was said to involve three members of the North Central Timor Regency DPRD who had family ties with the patient.

After the incident, the psychological condition of Doctor Icha was reported to have declined. The family said the victim suffered severe trauma, had trouble sleeping, often cried, and felt depressed due to the events he experienced. This condition made Doctor Icha undergo treatment for psychological disorders.

On Friday, June 26, 2026, Dr. Icha was reported to have died. The sad news triggered a wave of sympathy from health workers in various regions. Head of the Public Communication and Information Bureau of the Ministry of Health Aji Muhawarman said the Directorate General of Health Human Resources together with the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Health were handling the case involving doctor Icha.

"Every health worker has the right to protection, security, and respect in carrying out their duties to serve the community. There should be no intimidation, pressure or actions that degrade the dignity of health workers," said Aji.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Health condemned all forms of intimidation, bullying, and abuse of authority against health workers. According to him, these actions cannot be justified because they can disrupt health services and have a serious impact on the psychological condition of medical personnel.

The Ministry of Health also stated that it would coordinate with local governments, professional organizations, hospitals, and law enforcement to ensure legal protection and psychosocial support for health workers.

The North Central Timor Regency Government (TTU) also expressed support for the legal efforts that will be taken by the victim's family. The Regent of TTU Yosep Falentinus Kebo emphasized that the local government fully supports the family's steps to seek justice.
