Sheryl Sheinafia and Ibnu Jamil Challenge Physical Limits through HYROX
JAKARTA - The trend of a healthy lifestyle in Indonesia continues to evolve beyond conventional sports. Entering the middle of the year, the enthusiasm of fitness enthusiasts in the country is now directed at AirAsia HYROX Jakarta 2026.
This first fitness racing competition in Indonesia not only attracted professional athletes, but also public figures such as Sheryl Sheinafia and Ibnu Jamil who were challenged to test their physical and mental endurance.
As a sports event that combines running with functional workouts, HYROX offers an intense but inclusive competition atmosphere.
In order to prepare for the day of the race, the two public figures and sports activists joined the intensive coaching program of the PUMA HYROX Team, an initiative from the global sports equipment manufacturer, PUMA, which acts as an official partner.
Sheryl Sheinafia, who is known to have a track record as a marathon runner with a collection of two World Major Marathon medals, admitted that she was surprised by the intensity of the training she underwent to welcome AirAsia HYROX Jakarta 2026, forcing her heart rate to fluctuate extremely, in contrast to the usual marathon training pattern which tends to be stable.
"I only have one term for all HYROX athletes, which is a monster. You are all monsters! I see, this sport is not just like physical and mental resilience, but like spiritual resilience is also needed," said Sheryl at a press conference in celebration of AirAsia HYROX Jakarta 2026 in Cikini, Central Jakarta, Friday, June 26.
The 29-year-old singer and actress shared her heavy experience when she first performed the HYROX simulation. The varied characteristics of the exercise require strict time management and high nutritional intake to balance the calories drained. Two types of functional movements, namely sled push and pull, are recognized as the most crucial challenge and drain energy.
"With the Road to HYROX Jakarta program, I learned that every progress, no matter how small, is worth appreciating. This journey makes me more confident to face new challenges. I hope more Indonesian women feel confident to try HYROX," added Sheryl.
In line with Sheryl, actor Ibnu Jamil who is also known to be active in the running world, admitted that his initial perception of this competition was wrong. Initially he suspected that this event was merely an indoor sport for a certain fitness community, before finally experiencing the complexity of regulations and physical strategy arrangements at each training post.
"As someone who is active in sports, I see HYROX as a different challenge. It's not just about physical endurance, but how we can stay consistent and enjoy every training process," said Ibnu.
He likened the tactics in this competition to long-distance running, where pacing control is the key to not running out of energy in the final phase of the race.
The initiative of the Road to AirAsia HYROX Jakarta program launched by PUMA Indonesia is indeed designed to capture public interest openly. Through a rigorous selection of hundreds of applicants, a community team is formed that is directly trained with athletes to optimize the physical potential of participants.
Team Head of Marketing PUMA Indonesia, Rachmat B. Trilaksono, explained that this global fitness phenomenon is increasingly in demand because it offers space for each individual to continue to grow regardless of their sports background.
"We see more and more people making exercise a part of their lifestyle. HYROX offers a unique experience because it's not just about completing a race, but also about how someone continues to grow, builds confidence, and enjoys the process with the community," concluded Rachmat.
