Government to Unite All National Research, Focus on Solving Real Problems
Jakarta - The government has begun to unite all national research agendas in one road map or grand design so that research results are no longer running on their own. The focus is directed at research that is able to answer real problems in society.
The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the policy was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's instructions who had previously asked for the strengthening of the national research budget.
"All our research is now combined in one grand design. Hopefully, the research conducted will really have an impact on solving the problems we face," said Prasetyo after closing the National Sarasehan of the Science, Technology, and Industry Convention 2026 at the JICC, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (28/6).
According to Prasetyo, the preparation of the research roadmap was carried out together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Bappenas, and BRIN, which is now led by Arief Satria.
He explained that the government wanted to end the pattern of research that only produced academic reports without providing solutions to national needs.
Therefore, future research will focus on strategic issues, such as waste management, energy development, and the conversion of LPG use to compressed natural gas (CNG).
"Research must immediately have an impact on solving the problems we face," he said.
Prasetyo said that the unification of the research agenda is expected to make research budgets more effective while accelerating the birth of innovations that can be used by the community and industry.
