Political Position Flexibility Increases PDIP's Value

JAKARTA - Political observer Arifki Chaniago, assessed that the political stance of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) in the midst of a still fluid power configuration not only impacts the relationship with the government of President Prabowo Subianto, but also on the bargaining position of coalition parties towards the 2029 General Election.

He said, PKB's insistence that PDIP clarify its position on the government of President Prabowo Subianto is inseparable from political calculations leading up to the 2029 election. Because, until now PDIP has been in a relatively advantageous position. On the one hand, PDIP can criticize the government when policies that are rejected by the public emerge. But on the other hand, political communication with the government is still well maintained.

"This position makes PDIP have more flexible political room than parties that are already in the cabinet. When there is a policy that is not popular, PDIP can take a distance. However, when there is a political momentum that is beneficial, PDIP still has access to communication with the government," said Arifki, Sunday, June 28.

According to the Executive Director of Aljabar Strategic Indonesia, this condition makes PDIP have the opportunity to absorb a portion of the voter niche that is critical of the government. Meanwhile, coalition parties must also bear the political consequences of various policies carried out by the government.

Thus, the longer PDIP maintains this flexible political position, the higher the bargaining value of the party led by Megawati Soekarnoputri in the national power configuration in the 2029 election.

"The position of PDIP's offer is potentially getting more expensive because it remains a factor that is taken into account, both by the government and coalition parties. This situation certainly makes parties that are already in the government have to continue to calculate various possibilities for changes in the political map in the future," said Arifki.

Therefore, he sees the PKB statement not merely as a request for PDIP to clarify its political stance, but reflects the anxiety of some coalition parties over the increasing bargaining power of PDIP politics.

"Even though it is currently outside the government, PDIP still has access and influence in the dynamics of national politics. This condition makes PDIP's position still strategic, especially in reading the direction of political configuration ahead of 2029," concluded Arifki.
