JAKARTA - As many as 40 residents of Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra, have died from the COVID-19 virus since 2020, after adding two more people on Wednesday, June 9.

"There has been an increase in deaths due to COVID-19 accompanied by congenital diseases from two patients, each from the Garegeh and ATTS villages," said PLT Head of the Bukittinggi City Health Service (Dinkes), Linda Faroza in Bukittinggi, as reported by Antara, Thursday, 10 June.

He explained that the latest data from the Bukittinggi City Health Office noted that there were 21 additional cases on Wednesday.

"In detail, two people in Guguk Panjang District, 13 people in Mandiangin Koto Selayan District and six people from Aur Birugo Tigo Baleh (ABTB) District," he said.

The addition of this case brings Bukittinggi City to 1,959 people who have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 since this case emerged in 2020.

Linda Faroza added that the Bukittinggi City Government through the Health Office hopes that elderly residents in this city are willing to carry out free vaccinations to anticipate the spread.

"Because from the data obtained, 80 percent of the patients who died were over 60 years old, with that we hope that the elderly can be protected from COVID-19 by giving vaccines," he said.

The Health Office also appealed to all residents to comply with health protocols and maintain the condition of the body for themselves and their families.

"Let's increase immunity, eat nutritious food, get enough rest, and always pray that the COVID-19 pandemic will end soon," said Linda.
