DPR Condemns Alleged Intimidation of DPRD Members Against Doctor Icha

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Nihayatul Wafiroh, strongly condemned the alleged intimidation carried out by two members of the North Central Timor Regency DPRD, East Nusa Tenggara, with the initials NT and TL against doctor Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni alias doctor Icha.

"Whoever is proven to have abused their position or power must be held accountable for their actions in accordance with applicable laws," said Nihayatul, ANTARA, Sunday.

Nihayatul also said that intimidating actions against health workers cannot be justified under any circumstances, including against Dr. Icha who allegedly received intimidation while treating a child patient who was bitten by a snake at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, North Central Timor, on June 13, 2026.

"We all have a responsibility to ensure that health workers can work safely and without pressure or intimidation," he said.

He expressed deep condolences for the death of Dr. Icha and hoped that law enforcement officers could thoroughly investigate the alleged intimidation in a professional, transparent, and just manner.

Previously, information circulated on social media, such as X, that Icha's doctor was treating a child patient who was bitten by a snake at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, North Central Timor.

In handling the patient, it is suspected that Doctor Icha was intimidated by Norbertus Tubani and Therensius Lazakar as the patient's family.

The incident is suspected to have traumatized Icha, so the doctor had to undergo intensive treatment. On June 26, 2026, Icha was reported to have died.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Communication and Public Information Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Aji Muhawarman, said the Ministry of Health expressed its deep sorrow at the death of Dr. Icha and responded by conducting a thorough investigation regarding the alleged intimidation experienced by the deceased.

Aji said the Directorate General of Human Resources for Health and the Inspector General of the Ministry of Health are currently in the process of handling this case.
