Chery Rely P3X Ready to Challenge BYD Shark, 800 Nm Torque

JAKARTA - Chery is preparing the Rely P3X, a plug-in diesel hybrid pickup truck with 800 Nm of torque. This model is positioned to challenge BYD Shark in overseas markets when it is launched in the fourth quarter.

CarNewsChina quoted Friday, June 26, reported that the official production image of Chery Rely P3X shows the hardware layout and design of the pickup. This model is built on the Kaitan Architecture, a heavy-duty platform for utility vehicles.

Rely P3X uses a parallel-series plug-in diesel hybrid system. This system combines a diesel engine, electric motor, and battery so that the vehicle can remain powered, economical, and support long-distance travel needs.

Its power source comes from a 2.5-liter twin-turbo diesel engine combined with a large-powered electric motor. The total system power reaches 350 kW with a torque of 800 Nm. Torque is the torque that determines the vehicle's ability when pulling a load, accelerating, or crossing heavy terrain. The greater the torque, the stronger the vehicle's thrust.

In the cabin, Chery installed a 15.6-inch floating center screen and a double-bar multifunctional steering wheel. The car is also equipped with ventilation, heating, massage functions, as well as hot and cold refrigerators in the cabin.

The front seat can be reclined up to 180 degrees. The seat cushion can also be raised automatically. For rear passengers, the seat back can be adjusted from 27 degrees to 31 degrees.

For heavy terrain, the Rely P3X is equipped with three independent differential locks. This device helps regulate the distribution of torque when the car passes through difficult terrain.

A differential lock is a system that helps the wheels keep getting power when one wheel loses traction. This feature is important for off-road vehicles.

Drivers can also choose special driving modes for loose sand, deep mud, and steep inclines.

In the Chinese market, this model uses the name Rely P3X. For overseas markets, the same vehicle will use the name Chery Stockman. The name Stockman was chosen through a public competition in Australia.

CarNewsChina reports that both variants use the same core platform, but are adjusted according to the market. The domestic version uses a left steering wheel. Export models use a right steering wheel, special suspension calibration, and driver assistance software that is adjusted to international road safety rules.

This model is part of Chery's efforts to expand the global utility vehicle market, as well as complementing its line of plug-in hybrid pickups such as the Chery Jetour Zongheng F700.

China EV Datacker data in May 2026 shows that Chery's brand dynamics are also quite strong. The QQ3 EV leads the brand registration with 8,523 units and a share of 27.3 percent. Chery Tiggo 8 recorded 7,099 units, while Arrizo 8 posted 5,775 retail shipments.
