Ricuh Demo, Grahadi Surabaya Building Wall Destroyed During #IndonesiaSekarat Action
JAKARTA - East Java Provincial Secretary Adhy Karyono regretted the destruction of the Grahadi State building during the #IndonesiaSekarat demonstration in Surabaya.
"This is very unfortunate. We are in the process of completing the repair of Grahadi which was also on fire a year ago, but now this kind of incident has happened again," said Adhy Karyono when reviewing the Grahadi State building as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 26.
According to him, the security forces have tried to control the situation so that the action does not get worse.
He said the East Java Provincial Government continues to strive to restore and repair the historic building so that it can function optimally again.
Adhy emphasized that the damage to the Grahadi State building was a loss for all East Javanese people because the building was a symbol of provincial government.
"If there is damage to state buildings like this, it will certainly be a loss for all residents. This is a symbol of the East Java Provincial Government," he said.
Previously, a demonstration in front of the Grahadi State Building turned violent on Friday night. The crowd, dominated by participants dressed in black, threw bottles, stones, and a number of objects at officers.
In addition, some of the masses damaged the fence of the Grahadi State building which was being renovated after experiencing a fire last year.
The action, which was originally filled with the delivery of aspirations, heated up after the masses burned a pile of garbage on Jalan Gubernur Suryo so that security around the location was increased.
The Surabaya Police then dispersed the crowd after some of the participants in the action were suspected of damaging the fence and throwing objects that were considered to endanger the safety of the community and the participants in the action.
