Pecah Kongsi, Secretary General of the Labor Party and 1.3 Million ORI Members Resign

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Labor Party, Ferri Nuzarli, resigned along with around 1.3 million members and leaders of the Indonesian People's Organization (ORI) due to differences in views on the direction of the party's struggle.

Feri said the decision was made after going through various considerations and long evaluations.

"This decision is not easy. However, after various considerations and evaluations, we see that there are differences in views, attitudes, and directions of struggle that are increasingly fundamental," said Ferri in a written statement, Friday, June 26, as reported by ANTARA.

He explained that ORI is the political wing of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani which was established in 2013 and became one of the 11 organizations that initiated the establishment of the Labor Party at the I October 2021 Congress.

According to Ferri, around 1.3 million ORI members across Indonesia decided to resign from the Labor Party starting Friday, June 26.

"With full awareness and responsibility, the ORI, which has about 1.3 million members, decided to resign starting Friday," he said.

Ferri emphasized that the resignation was carried out properly and still maintained fraternal relations with the Labor Party.

He also instructed all ORI managers who occupy structural positions in the Labor Party, starting at the central, provincial, district/city and sub-district levels, to immediately submit resignation letters administratively.

"Today we instructed all levels of ORI and KSPSI Andi Gani who are the managers of the Labor Party to immediately make a resignation letter as an administrative requirement," he said.

Ferri said that the managers who followed the steps were spread across various regions, including North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Riau Islands, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, to Papua.

He likened the relationship between the ORI and the Labor Party to a household that faced long-term problems so that various efforts to resolve the family did not bear fruit.

"The internal problem has actually been long since we have tried to solve it within the family, but the problem continues to grow until finally, based on evaluations and input from all regions, we decided it was enough to stop here," he said.

Regarding the impact of resignation on the Labor Party, Ferri claimed that ORI together with KSPSI is the largest initiator organization in the party.

"If you ask what percentage it has an influence, yes, automatically half of it," said Ferri.

He also said that the Labor Party President Said Iqbal had known about his resignation plan since Thursday (25/6) evening.
