Russia shot down 660 Ukrainian drones overnight

JAKARTA - Russian air defenses shot down 660 Ukrainian drones overnight, the Defense Ministry said on Friday, one of the highest figures since the start of the conflict.

"Drones were destroyed in more than a dozen regions, including the Russian capital and the annexed Crimean peninsula, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov," the ministry said on Russia's state-owned Max platform.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at least 47 drones heading for the capital had been intercepted.

"Emergency service specialists are working at the site where the debris fell," Sobyanin said on Telegram, without reporting any casualties or damage, Al Arabiya reported from AFP (26/6).

"Massive" drone attacks also hit Tula region, about 180 km (112 miles) south of Moscow, said Dmitry Milyaev, the region's governor.

"A private residential house was damaged in a settlement in the Shchekino district, as a result of which a woman was injured," Milyaev said on Telegram.

Ukraine has stepped up its campaign of long-range drone attacks against Russia in recent months, particularly targeting energy infrastructure, with the aim of depriving the Kremlin of a vital source of revenue to fund its war effort, which is now in its fifth year.

Last week, Ukrainian strikes caused a fire at an oil refinery southeast of Moscow.
