Nearly 240 People Killed, Venezuela Earthquake Damaged 250 Buildings, 8 Hospitals

JAKARTA - A series of devastating earthquakes that shook Venezuela damaged 250 buildings, eight hospitals, and 20 shopping centers were damaged or destroyed.

"Until now, 250 buildings have been declared damaged or completely destroyed. Eight hospitals have been damaged and some of them have had to be evacuated. A total of 20 malls and 68 infrastructure facilities have been damaged," National Assembly Chairman Jorge Rodriguez said in a televised speech quoted by RIA Novosti as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 26.

Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.2 and 7.5 shook Venezuela on Wednesday (24/6), followed by 30 aftershocks.

At least 235 people were reported dead. The earthquake also destroyed many houses, damaged various infrastructure facilities and hospitals, and forced the closure of Venezuela's main airport.
