Death Due to Ebola in RD Congo Surpasses 300 Cases
JAKARTA - The number of deaths due to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 300 cases, with 1,155 confirmed cases.
"The epidemic is still active in Ituri Province, North Kivu, and South Kivu with 1,155 confirmed cases and 304 deaths," the Ministry of Communication and Media of the RD Congo said, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, June 26.
The case fatality rate increased by 1 percentage point compared to the previous report to 26.3 percent.
The WHO in May 2026 designated the Ebola outbreak in RD Congo and Uganda as a state of emergency that could threaten other countries. The UN agency assessed that the risk of further spread in the region was considered high.
Previously on Tuesday (23/6) the WHO stated that the Ebola outbreak in RD Congo was the largest number of confirmed cases in the first month of the outbreak.
Meanwhile, on the same day the RD Congo government reported that the number of Ebola deaths reached 267 people, while the number of confirmed cases rose to 1,048 cases. The current fatality rate also reached more than 25 percent, he said.
"This outbreak continues to spread. This is the largest number of confirmed cases in the first month of the Ebola outbreak in Africa," said the Director of the WHO Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Department, Abdirahman Mahamud in Geneva.
