Government records digital tax revenue until May 2026 reaches Rp52.85 trillion

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) recorded that as of May 31, 2026, the government recorded revenue from the digital economy business sector of IDR 52.85 trillion.

Director of Extension, Services, and Public Relations Inge Diana Rismawanti said the amount came from the collection of Value Added Tax (PPN) Trade Through Electronic System (PMSE) of Rp40.55 trillion, tax on crypto assets of Rp2.06 trillion, tax on fintech (peer-to-peer lending) Rp4.98 trillion, and taxes collected by other parties through the Government Procurement Information System (Tax SIPP) Rp5.26 trillion.

Inge emphasized that the largest contribution to the revenue still came from the PMSE VAT and by the end of May 2026 the Directorate General of Taxes had appointed 271 PMSE actors as PMSE VAT collectors.

"In May 2026, the DJP will again adjust the list of PPN PMSE collectors through the appointment of seven new collectors. This step is part of the DJP's efforts to keep up with the development of the digital economy," he said in a statement, Friday, June 26.

Meanwhile, the seven entities appointed as collectors of the PMSE VAT in the period were Strava, Inc., Envato Pty Ltd, Envato Elements Pty Ltd, The Nielsen Norman Group, Inc., Kling AI Pte. Ltd., Law School Admission Council, Inc., and PLAUD LLC.

He explained that these entities are active in various digital economic sectors, including fitness services, digital content, education, and artificial intelligence (AI), which reflects the increasingly wide scope of the collection of PPN PMSE as the digital business model develops.

Inge emphasized that in line with the expansion of the collection scope, as of May 31, 2026, 233 PMSEs had collected and deposited the PMSE VAT with a total of IDR 40.55 trillion.

He added that the amount consisted of a deposit of IDR 731.4 billion in 2020, IDR 3.9 trillion in 2021, IDR 5.51 trillion in 2022, IDR 6.76 trillion in 2023, IDR 8.44 trillion in 2024, IDR 10.32 trillion in 2025, and IDR 4.88 trillion in 2026.

Apart from PMSE, the digital economy tax revenue also comes from cryptocurrency asset transactions, namely until May 2026, cryptocurrency tax revenue has reached IDR 2.06 trillion. This revenue comes from IDR 246.54 billion in 2022, IDR 220.89 billion in 2023, IDR 620.38 billion in 2024, IDR 796.74 billion in 2025, and IDR 174.46 billion in 2026.

"The receipt of cryptocurrency taxes consists of PPh Article 22 of IDR 1.18 trillion and Domestic VAT of IDR 881.82 billion," he said.

Inge said that the revenue from fintech taxes had reached Rp. 4.98 trillion as of May 2026.

He explained that the revenue came from Rp446.39 billion in 2022, Rp1.11 trillion in 2023, Rp1.48 trillion in 2024, Rp1.37 trillion in 2025, and Rp574.38 billion in 2026.

According to him, the fintech tax consists of Income Tax Article 23 on interest on loans received by domestic taxpayers and a fixed business form of IDR 1.4 trillion, Income Tax Article 26 on interest on loans received by foreign taxpayers of IDR 727.91 billion, and Domestic VAT of IDR 2.85 trillion.

Inge said that other digital economy tax receipts came from the SIPP Tax which had reached Rp5.26 trillion as of May 2026.

He explained that the revenue from the SIPP tax came from Rp402.38 billion in 2022, Rp1.12 trillion in 2023, Rp1.33 trillion in 2024, Rp1.23 trillion in 2025, and Rp1.18 trillion in 2026.

Meanwhile, the receipt of SIPP Tax consists of PPh Article 22 of IDR 389.88 billion and VAT of IDR 4.87 trillion.

"The inclusion of AI service providers and various other digital services in the list of PPN PMSE collectors reflects the increasing diversity of digital services used by the public," he said.

Inge added that DJP will continue to follow the development of technology and digital business models to ensure that the implementation of tax obligations is carried out effectively, fairly, and provides legal certainty for business actors.
