The number of victims of the Philippine earthquake has increased to 81 people.
JAKARTA - The death toll from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook Maasim, Sarangani, and a number of surrounding provinces has increased to 81 people. A day earlier, the death toll was reported to be 77 people.
According to a report by the Philippine News Agency, quoted on Friday, June 26, the Philippine National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management or NDRRMC delivered the latest data on Friday.
Of the 81 dead, nine people have been confirmed. They all come from the Davao Region.
A total of 72 other deaths are still in the process of being validated. The details are, 12 people from the Davao Region and 60 people from Soccsksargen.
The number of injured victims was recorded at 1,315 people. Meanwhile, 31 people are still missing.
NDRRMC recorded 382,629 families affected or equivalent to 1,633,161 people. They are spread across 620 barangays in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or BARMM.
Barangays are the smallest administrative territorial units in the Philippines, equivalent to village or neighborhood neighborhoods.
Damaged houses were recorded at 87,058 units. The damage was reported in Regions 9, 11, 12, and BARMM.
The value of infrastructure damage is still at 1.35 billion Philippine pesos. Damage was recorded in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and BARMM.
