Toyota bZ4X Kena Recall in Australia, Thousands of Units Affected

JAKARTA - Toyota Australia has recalled or recalled the bZ4X electric SUV produced in 2025 to 2026 in the country, citing the potential for damage to high-voltage battery software.

Citing the Drive.au website, Friday, June 26, a total of 1,101 bZ4X electric SUVs were affected. The announcement was made directly by Toyota Australia, which stated some details of the problem.

"The battery electric vehicle (BEV) in question is equipped with a battery that supplies electricity to the drive system. This battery is controlled by an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) installed in the vehicle," the report reads.

It was explained that due to a software error, the "EV System Damage" warning message may be displayed, and several damage indicator lights for different systems may light up on the Instrument Panel.

"If such damage occurs, power steering and power assisted braking will still operate, but the electric drive system will be turned off. This can lead to loss of drive power when driving at high speed, thereby increasing the risk of collision," the report added.

Toyota Australia said it would contact affected owners to arrange a free ECU battery software update.

This process is estimated to take about 45 minutes, but depending on the Dealer's work schedule, the owner may be asked to provide the vehicle for a longer period of time.
