Donald Trump Says Iran Funds Will Be Used to Buy American Wheat

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said Washington would use some of the frozen Iranian funds to buy US-produced wheat, soybeans, and corn for Iran.

According to a report by Anadolu Agency quoted on Friday, June 26, Trump conveyed the plan at the White House, Thursday (26/6). He said Iran was facing food shortages.

Trump said the plan would open up "new markets" for US farmers.

"We have a new market that will soon open, and it's called the beautiful country of Iran," Trump said.

He said the US would use "some of the Iranian money" to buy American agricultural commodities.

"They are having food difficulties. We will take some of their money and spend it. We will buy a lot of wheat, soybeans, and corn. The process will start soon. It will be huge," Trump said.

Trump has not explained how much Iranian funds will be used. He has also not specified when the purchase of wheat, soybeans, and corn began.
