Arifah Fauzi ensures the protection of children victims of parental violence in Batam

JAKARTA - Minister of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi ensures that children who are victims of alleged violence committed by parents in Batam City, Riau Islands, receive protection and assistance according to their needs.

"The Ministry of PPPA will continue to monitor the handling of this case and ensure that the child victim receives protection and recovery according to their needs," said PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi in Jakarta, Friday.

The KemenPPPA has coordinated with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) of Batam City and related parties in handling this case.

He encouraged the handling of child victims to be carried out comprehensively through health services, psychological recovery, and the fulfillment of children's rights.

"Children should receive protection, security, and affection from their parents and their care environment. Violence against children, especially by those who have responsibility in childcare, is an action that cannot be tolerated because it can have an impact on the physical and psychological condition of children," said Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi.

So far, the child victim has received outreach and assessment, assistance in the examination of visumet repertum at the hospital, psychological strengthening, and coordination of the fulfillment of children's rights with related Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), including coordination related to the fulfillment of the rights of the child's identity. victim.

"In addition to recovering the physical health condition of the child, which is a priority at this time, we also pay attention to the psychological recovery of children who need a continuous process and assistance. We also assess the victim's extended family to ensure the availability of safe alternative care and in accordance with the best interests of the child, given that both parents of the victim are currently undergoing legal proceedings," said Arifah Fauzi.

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights has also coordinated with law enforcement officials to monitor the development of the legal process in this case.

The perpetrator of this case can be subject to the provisions of Article 76C in conjunction with Article 80 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection, with a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a maximum fine of Rp. 100 million. If the act is committed by the victim's parents, the penalty can be increased by one third.

In addition, the alleged act can also be subject to Article 466 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding persecution, with a maximum sentence of two years and six months or a maximum fine of Rp. 50 million, and if it results in serious injury to the victim, the criminal threat can increase to seven years in prison.
