Prabowo asks campuses to prepare human resources for industrialization, so that the industry does not lack experts

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto asked universities to prepare human resources (HR) that are in accordance with the needs of the downstream industry. The government does not want the acceleration of the development of strategic industries to be hampered by a lack of experts.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto after meeting President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, June 25.

According to Brian, the President emphasized the acceleration of various downstream programs carried out by the government together with Danantara. These programs include the development of the pharmaceutical industry, national cars, national motorcycles, to the mineral, aquaculture, and aquafarming sectors.

"We are asked to ensure that university graduates can really meet the human resources needs for the development of downstream industries," said Brian.

He said that the need for labor to support the acceleration of downstream processing would be very large. Therefore, the government began to calculate the need for competence in each sector to be in harmony with university graduates.

According to Brian, the President reminded that industrial expansion should not be faced with the classic problem of labor shortages or graduates who do not meet the needs of the business world.

"Don't let this industry that will be developed quickly then experience a shortage of human resources, or the SDM is not appropriate. For example, we need a lot of electrical experts, but the graduates are not appropriate," he said.

Therefore, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is asked to ensure that the need for experts in various sectors can be met through adjustments to higher education.

Brian said this step was part of efforts to support the acceleration of industrialization which is one of the government's agendas.

After giving his statement, Brian chose not to answer questions from reporters regarding the alleged students of Bung Karno University (UBK) who received money to thwart the demonstration. He immediately left the location to attend the next meeting agenda.
