PBSI Decided to Duet Rian with Daniel
JAKARTA - The Central Management of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) has decided to pair Muhammad Rian Ardianto with youth badminton player, Daniel Edgar Marvino.
The men's doubles coach, Antonius Budi Ariantho, in an official statement from the national badminton parent confirmed that Rian/Daniel will play together for several upcoming tournaments.
"I see good potential from Daniel Edgar, but he still needs a mentor and guidance on the field to improve his skills," said Anton in the statement.
Rian/Daniel plans to make their debut as a new pair at the 2026 BWF Super 300 Taipei Open 300 which will run from July 28 to August 2.
Anton hopes that Rian can guide his junior well because he already has a wealth of experience at the highest level of badminton.
"With the experience, flying hours and skills that Rian has, I hope he can guide Daniel to a higher level and hopefully Daniel can learn a lot from Rian," he said.
This decision was made based on the results in several recent tournaments which tend to stagnate, both Rian who is paired with Rahmat Hidayat or Daniel Edgar who is paired with Taufik Aderya.
Anton said that Rian/Rahmat was actually quite promising at the beginning when they were together, but in some tournaments after that the results were not good so he needed to try other options.
"The goal of this combination of seniors and juniors is indeed more to mature young players to be ready to step up to a higher level, but it is not impossible to compete at the top level," he said.
In addition to combining Rian/Daniel, PBSI also tried a new pair of Apriyani Rahayu with Dejan Ferdinansyah. This new mixed doubles will also make their debut in China Taipei later.
