West Java Police Ensure Taufik Hidayat is Arrested Not Turning Himself In
BANDUNG - The West Java Regional Police confirmed that Taufik Hidayat, a suspect in the kidnapping and abuse case against a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency, was arrested by the police and did not surrender as the narrative circulated in the community.
Head of Public Relations of West Java Police Kombes Hendra Rochmawan said Taufik was successfully secured by the West Java Police joint team in the Bandung Raya area on Tuesday (23/6) evening after previously moving to avoid being chased by officers.
"Yes, he did not surrender and was arrested around Bandung Raya," said Hendra in Bandung, Thursday, June 25, reported by ANTARA.
According to him, the suspect had been hiding in several locations before being arrested by the police in the Majalaya area, Bandung Regency.
Hendra also revealed that investigators would examine a witness named Dadang Ahyar who was suspected of knowing the movements of the suspect during the escape.
"That's one of the witnesses and we will conduct an examination. Visually, the examination has been carried out, but there will be further follow-up," he said.
Currently, investigators are still investigating the testimony of witnesses and completing evidence to uncover the entire series of events of kidnapping and persecution allegedly committed by the suspect against the victim.
In addition, Hendra said the West Java Police also opened the possibility of other victims being committed by the suspect in similar cases.
The police have monitored a number of uploads on social media containing confessions from individuals who claimed to have been victims of the suspect.
"We received posts on social media claiming to be victims. We open space for anyone who feels they are victims to report," said Hendra.
Previously, Taufik Hidayat had been named a suspect in the kidnapping and persecution case against YTR, which allegedly lasted for approximately three years in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency.
The victim suffered a number of serious injuries that affected his physical condition, including vision impairment, difficulty speaking, and being unable to walk normally.
