Fadli Zon Says Soeharto's Leadership Values Are Still Relevant for the Young Generation

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon considers that a number of leadership values of the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, General Besar TNI (Ret.) H.M. Soeharto are still worth learning by the younger generation in the midst of increasingly complex challenges.

Fadli conveyed this view when he was a keynote speaker at the National Seminar on the Leadership of General Besar TNI (Ret.) H.M. Soeharto which was held at the Trilogi University Auditorium, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 24.

According to Fadli, there are a number of Soeharto's leadership characteristics that are still relevant to this day. Starting from the ability to read the reality on the ground, appreciate science and the views of experts, build an effective work system, to the courage to take responsibility in difficult situations.

"If we talk about Mr. Harto's leadership, a number of characters that are worthy of being a learning material for today's generation include being based on facts and the reality of society, valuing science, building an effective work system, daring to take responsibility, and upholding leadership values," said Fadli.

He assessed that Suharto's leadership journey took place in a period of great challenges. Therefore, various policies that were born during that period can be a material for study to understand how a leader reads the nation's problems and makes strategic decisions.

Fadli also highlighted the importance of cultural values in national leadership. According to Fadli, patience, self-control, firmness of stance, and orientation on the interests of the nation are the capital that Indonesia still needs today.

"Mr. Harto's leadership in the midst of various challenges at the time is part of the history of the nation which can be a source of learning for future generations in building Indonesia in the future," he said.

The seminar is part of the series of commemorations of the 105th anniversary of the birth of Suharto. The activity was held by the Mandiri Sejahtera Fund Foundation (Damandiri) together with Trilogi University and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

In addition to Fadli Zon, the seminar featured a number of speakers from various backgrounds. Among them were the Dean of the Faculty of Defense Strategy of the Defense University, Major General TNI Dr. Oktaheroe Ramsi, Chairman of the Center for Islamic and Indonesian State Studies Yudi Latif, and former Minister of Finance Fuad Bawazier who also became the Supervisor of the Damandiri Foundation.

In the same series of activities, the committee also held a sketch competition for Suharto's face entitled "One Thousand Scratches of History" which was attended by 1,126 participants from students, students, and the general public.

Based on the number of participants, the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) established the activity as a record for the category of the most sketches of H.M. Soeharto.

Closing his remarks, Fadli hoped that the younger generation would continue to study the history of the nation in its entirety so that the values of leadership, dedication, and nationality that were passed down by national figures would not be lost to time.
