West Java Police Check the Mental Health of the Woman Abduction Perpetrator in Bandung

BANDUNG - The West Java Regional Police has involved a psychiatrist to examine the psychological condition of Taufik Hidayat, a suspect in the kidnapping and abuse case against a woman with the initials YTR (29), to complete the investigation process.

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan said the examination was necessary to obtain an initial picture of the suspect's mental condition after allegedly kidnapping and torturing the victim for three years.

"It also involves several experts, including psychiatrists, so that we have initial data on the suspect's mental condition," said Rudi in Bandung, Wednesday, June 24, as reported by ANTARA.

According to him, the acts allegedly committed by the suspect against the victim are unnatural acts and beyond the limits of normal behavior of a person towards his partner.

"Because what was done, as you know, this is something unnatural, something out of the ordinary behavior of a person towards his lover, which we can say is too sadistic," he said.

Apart from the psychiatric examination, the West Java Police also placed Taufik Hidayat in a special cell during the legal process.

The suspect was detained alone in a detention room equipped with surveillance cameras (CCTV) and was under the close supervision of officers.

"Then we will detain them in a special cell that has CCTV installed and is under our own supervision," he said.

Rudi explained that investigators are currently conducting preliminary examinations of the suspects before undergoing official detention to investigate the series of events experienced by the victim.

The results of the medical examination of the victim showed damage to a number of body parts allegedly due to kidnapping and persecution which lasted for approximately three years.

Previously, the West Java Regional Police managed to arrest Taufik Hidayat at a house belonging to a relative of the perpetrator in the Griya Pesona Housing, Ciparay, Bandung Regency on Tuesday (23/6) afternoon.

The perpetrator confined and abused YTR at a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, until the victim suffered serious injuries and disorders in a number of body functions.
