Prabowo remembers farmers' support when he was a young soldier

GORONTALO - President Prabowo Subianto remembers the great role of farmers and fishermen in the early days of the establishment of the Republic of Indonesia. According to him, farmers and fishermen participated in supporting the nation's struggle when the country did not have a budget or an established system of government.

Prabowo conveyed the story when he attended the XVII National Farmers and Fishermen Summit (PENAS) in Gorontalo, Wednesday, June 24.

As a former soldier, Prabowo admitted that he had an emotional closeness with farmers and fishermen. He assessed that these two groups were the backbone of the nation since the independence struggle.

According to him, when Indonesia was just independent and the soldiers had not received salaries, the food needs of the fighters were supported by the people in the villages.

"The soldiers at that time were supported and supported by our farmers and fishermen throughout Indonesia," said Prabowo.

He also recalled his experience when serving as a young soldier in various areas. In a very limited living condition, many farmers still help soldiers who are tasked with guarding the country.

For Prabowo, this experience reminded him that farmers and fishermen not only play a role as food producers, but also an important part of the nation's history.

Therefore, he emphasized that food security must be a national priority.

"No country can survive without food," he said.

Prabowo assessed that all state leaders must understand the importance of the agricultural and fisheries sectors. Because, the strength of a country is ultimately determined by its ability to feed its own people.
