IKN Garapan Brantas Abipraya Plaza Ceremony Wins MLAA 2026 Award

JAKARTA - The Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) Ceremonial Plaza which was built by PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) won the Honour Award at the 2026 Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA) for the Landscape Design Award (Professional Category).

The award was given for landscape design which was considered able to integrate aesthetic, functional, sustainable, and quality aspects of public spaces.

This achievement also shows that Indonesia's infrastructure and landscape works are able to compete and gain appreciation at the global level.

Corporate Secretary of PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero), Dian Sovana said that the award was the result of collaboration between various parties in presenting the Ceremonial Plaza as one of the iconic public spaces in the IKN area.

"The MLAA 2026 award is an appreciation for the collaboration and dedication of all Brantas Abipraya people in presenting infrastructure that not only has strategic functions, but also provides aesthetic value, sustainability, and social benefits for the community. The IKN Ceremonial Plaza is a symbol of how development can align the identity of the nation, environmental preservation, and the needs of modern public spaces," said Dian in an official statement, Wednesday, June 24.

Located in front of the State Palace and the Garuda Palace, the Ceremonial Plaza is an important part of the National Axis area which is the center of state activities as well as the main public space in the IKN.

The area is designed as a modern reinterpretation of the concept of the Indonesian square, which has long been a space for social interaction for the community.

Through a combination of cultural elements, natural landscapes, and the needs of the future city, the Ceremonial Plaza is presented as an inclusive public space that can be accessed by various groups.

In addition to being used for state activities and official state events, the Ceremonial Plaza is also designed to support social, cultural, and recreational activities of the community.

This area is equipped with various facilities such as an open amphitheater, pedestrian paths, bicycle paths, green areas, UMKM galleries, to communal spaces.

Another advantage lies in the application of the principle of sustainable development.

The design of the area utilizes the natural contours of the land and the existing water management system so that it can optimize the ecological function without reducing user comfort.

The Ceremonial Plaza together with the National Axis area was inaugurated by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo on August 14, 2024.

The area then became one of the main supporting infrastructures for the implementation of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia Ceremony at the IKN.

According to Dian, the award received by the Plaza Seremoni shows that the development of national infrastructure does not only focus on the construction aspect, but is also able to present public spaces that provide economic, social, and environmental benefits in a sustainable manner.

"This success further strengthens Brantas Abipraya's commitment to continue to present superior, innovative, and sustainable infrastructure works. We believe that the infrastructure of the future must be able to provide long-term benefits for the community, strengthen the nation's competitiveness, and support the realization of a more advanced Indonesia," concluded Dian.
