Support Community Economic Activities, Prabowo Requests Regional Roads to be Widened to Around 8 Meters
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto asked that the handling of regional roads consider the width of the road so that two four-wheeled vehicles can pass through it.
Therefore, the local road which originally had a width of around 3 meters was widened to around 8 meters.
The instruction was conveyed by the Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo during the inauguration of a number of roads built through the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Regional Road (IJD) program in the 2025 fiscal year on Kedungdung-Bringkoning Road, Sampang Regency, East Java Province, Tuesday, June 23.
According to Dody, the directive is part of the implementation of the regional road improvement program carried out by the government through Presidential Decree Number 11 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Regional Road Connectivity Improvement to Support Food and Energy Self-sufficiency.
"We believe that with sustainable management and close synergy between the central and regional governments, the infrastructure inaugurated today will be a lever to accelerate the nation's progress in the long term," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, June 24.
Meanwhile, Prabowo said that regional roads have an important role as a support for people's economic activities.
The Head of State assessed that road connectivity could reduce the cost of transporting agricultural, plantation, fishery and various community products.
"We are determined that no area should be left behind just because of limited access. We must reduce logistics costs for all our people and our economy. Good roads are part of our resilience strategy," said Prabowo.
Dody added that the development of regional roads is expected to strengthen inter-regional connectivity as well as support community economic activities.
The Ministry of PU noted that the implementation of the IJD for the 2025 fiscal year includes handling roads along 1,151 kilometers spread across 37 provinces with a total investment value of Rp. 5.41 trillion.
On Java Island, the program includes handling roads in West Java along 50.99 kilometers, Central Java 132.62 kilometers, Yogyakarta Special Region 13.07 kilometers, East Java 53.78 kilometers and Banten 19.20 kilometers.
Meanwhile, in Sumatra, the handling was carried out in 10 provinces with a total length of 202.37 kilometers.
The program also covers provinces in Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi to Maluku and Papua.
"Through the improvement of regional road connectivity, the government is trying to facilitate the flow of goods and people, reduce logistics costs, strengthen production centers, and open up investment opportunities and economic growth in various regions," concluded Dody.
