The Impact of the Development of Turap Kali Cakung Lama Disrupts the Activities of Residents and Children Around

JAKARTA - The construction of a culvert in Kali Cakung Lama, Kelapa Gading and Cilincing Districts, North Jakarta, was complained by a number of residents on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

The reason is that the impact of the tar road construction resulted in the isolation of the residents' access road. In addition to impacting the residents' economy, the interruption of the road also caused damage to the PAM pipe for clean water belonging to residents.

This has harmed a number of residents who live in RT 04/03, Pegangsaan Dua Village, Kelapa Gading District, North Jakarta.

The Cakung Drain Canal paving project was carried out on the right and left sides. The right side enters the territory of RW 10, Sukapura Village, Cilincing District. Meanwhile, the left side enters the territory of RW 03, Pegangsaan Dua Village, Kelapa Gading District.

"The paving work starts from the RT 01-07/RW 03 area of Pegangsaan Dua Village, Kelapa Gading. The problem is that it has been more than 5 months and until today it is still stuck like this," said Farid, Chairman of RT 04/03 Pegangsaan Dua Village to reporters at the location, Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Farid said that the construction of the turap in Kali Cakung Drain was carried out by the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Service to overcome the flooding that often hit the area.

"Actually this is the first time for improvement. Here it often floods, it has been a long time since the RW management asked for a turap kali. We are happy that there is a development of kali, there is a change in kali we are. However, another problem arises, the residents' access to the road becomes difficult because of this work," he said.

A number of residents complained that the residents' access to activities was hampered.

"The access road is complained about by residents who are cut off, school children who usually pass easily but now it is very difficult," he said.

Farid said the road break on the river side had been going on since March 2026 until now.

"If the community wants it to be done quickly, it shouldn't be slow. There is a target that can be achieved quickly. So the public's access to all of this can run smoothly," he said.

The same thing was said by other residents. Yulianti (35) who is a trader in the area admitted that he was affected by the construction of the kali tarpaulin project which actually eroded the residents' roads.

"If it's like me, people sell it, yes, the usual sales are crowded, but since this project, it's honestly quiet. It's because it's probably hard to buy what the access road is," he complained.

Yulianti also complained about the condition of the road that was cut off. According to him, due to the cut-off road access due to the construction of the kali tarpaulin project, a number of children who were going to school were also disturbed.

"What we complain about is also school children. In the underpass of the street, it is difficult, we are afraid of children being confused. We are the ones who are afraid of children, right? This is the access road for entering and exiting the highway, the main access. School children also pass through here," he said.

It is just known that the construction of the sluice in Kali Cakung Lama is a project from the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Service. The construction of the Kali Cakung Lama sluice serves to prevent flooding in the area.
