NHM Peduli: North Halmahera Residents Undergo Heart Surgery in Jakarta
NORTH HALMAHERA - A resident of Doro Village, North Kao District, North Halmahera, has successfully undergone heart surgery in Jakarta after receiving assistance and medical assistance from the NHM Peduli Foundation which was formed by PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM).
The patient named Glen F. Kotabunan was diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease and needed further medical treatment that was not available in his area.
The mentoring process began at the end of February 2026. The NHM Peduli team facilitated Glen's departure to Jakarta to undergo examinations and preparation for surgery at the Jakarta Heart Hospital.
After undergoing a series of pre-operative examinations and checks, Glen underwent heart surgery at the end of April 2026.
Post-operation, the patient is still undergoing monitoring and health checks until the doctor declares that his condition has improved. Glen was then allowed to go home and return to Doro Village in early May 2026.
Until the end of June 2026, Glen's condition is still being monitored by the NHM Peduli's accompanying doctor, dr. Syamsul Bahri. Monitoring is carried out to ensure that patients undergo follow-up treatment in Tobelo according to medical recommendations.
Glen's family expressed their appreciation for the assistance and support provided during the treatment process.
"We, the big family of Glen, would like to thank the President Director of NHM, Mr. Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo, for the attention and assistance provided through NHM Peduli. May he always be blessed by God, given health, and long life," said Glen's mother, Mien Toebeoto, in a written statement received Tuesday, June 23.
NHM Peduli accompanying doctor, dr. Syamsul Bahri, said that the accompaniment was part of the commitment to help people in need of health services.
"We are trying to ensure that every patient receives quick, appropriate, and sustainable treatment. Hopefully, patients can return to their activities in better condition," he said.
The NHM Peduli program is part of the company's social activities that have been carried out to help the community around the mine operation area, including in the field of health.
Glen's case is one example of how access to specialist health services that are difficult to reach in the region can be opened through ongoing support and support.
