Iran-Oman Form a Joint Committee to Discuss the Strait of Hormuz

JAKARTA - Iran and Oman formed a joint committee to conduct dialogue regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

"After the delegation's visit to Muscat, Iran and Oman have formed a joint committee for dialogue on the Strait of Hormuz, the details of which will be published in a joint statement," wrote the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and head of Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Tuesday, June 23.

Earlier this month, Iranian authorities said they were developing a shipping mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz with Oman.

Last week, Iran and the United States signed an online memorandum of understanding that regulates the cessation of the military conflict that began on February 28.

The document also sets a timetable for the United States to lift a naval blockade of Iranian ports and for Iran to restore shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

Technical negotiations between Iran and the United States mediated by Pakistan and Qatar took place in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on June 21.
