The Ministry of Defense Evaluates Latsarmil After Two SPPI Participants Died
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) conducted a thorough evaluation of the implementation of basic military training (latsarmil) after two participants in the Indonesian Development Driving Bachelor Program (SPPI) died while studying.
"The Ministry of Defense together with the National Selection Committee and the current education organizers are carrying out a thorough evaluation of all aspects of the program's implementation," said the Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 23.
According to Rico, the evaluation was carried out to identify various aspects that needed to be improved in order to improve the safety and quality of the implementation of military education.
"We will evaluate the health selection mechanism, medical supervision, handling of participants with special health conditions, as well as communication and reporting systems," he said.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Defense was open to various inputs and criticisms in order to realize a better implementation of latsarmil.
"Every input, evaluation, and learning from the implementation of activities will be the basis for improving the program in the future so that it will run better, safer, more professional, and accountable," said Rico.
Previously, two participants in the SPPI Program who were prepared to become managers of the Red and White Village/Village Cooperative (KDKMP) and the Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP) died while participating in the latsarmil.
The two participants were named Anisa Muyassaroh and Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq.
Rico explained that Anisa Muyassaroh died due to "heat stroke" while attending education at the Dodikjur Rindam VI/Mulawarman Education Unit (Satdik), Balikpapan.
Heat stroke (or heat stroke) is an emergency condition due to exposure to extreme heat, where the core body temperature jumps drastically to reach or exceed 40 degrees Celsius and the body's temperature regulation system fails to function.
Meanwhile, Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq died while attending education at the Central Training Center (Puslatpur) of the Kodiklatad Baturaja.
According to Rico, Yonanda had a physical condition on June 17, 2026 and was then referred to the hospital for medical treatment.
"Based on medical information, the person concerned was declared dead due to 'cardiac arrest' or cardiac arrest," he said.
