Iranian President: Success of Negotiations with the US Depends on Realization of Treaty Obligations

JAKARTA - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the success of ongoing negotiations with the United States depends on the fulfillment of various commitments that have been agreed upon by both parties.

"The effectiveness of talks (with the US) depends on full commitment to the agreed obligations and their proper implementation," Pezeshkian wrote on the social media X, Tuesday, June 23, as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu.

He emphasized that statements made outside the framework of the agreed cooperation would not help the progress of negotiations.

"Progress in this step will be measured by compliance with the agreed responsibilities," he said.

The comment was made following talks between the US and Iran in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on Sunday (21/6) in an effort to reach an Islamabad MoU.

Iran and the US announced on June 14 that they had reached a 14-point understanding mediated by Pakistan, to end the war and resolve unresolved disputes through dialogue and negotiations.

The memorandum, known as the Islamabad Understanding, came into force on June 18 after being digitally signed by Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump.

The agreement includes provisions related to the end of the war, including in Lebanon, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of the US naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports.
