Saan Mustopa Emphasizes the DPR's Oversight Function to the Government is Still the Way
JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Saan Mustopa said the mechanism of mutual supervision and counterbalancing or check and balances as one of the tasks of the DPR as a legislative institution is still running.
"Check and balances are still going on, yes. For example, related to public complaints about government policies and programs, they are dealt with in related commissions, criticized as well," he said as quoted by ANTARRA, Monday, June 22.
He gave an example of the DPR last week receiving a mass audience of student activists who expressed their opinions about the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. He also said that the government accommodated public input.
"Like last Friday (19/6), when the DPR received students and the Head of BGN (National Nutrition Agency) said they were rearranging the MBG governance," he said.
Likewise, regarding the increase in the price of non-subsidized fuel oil (BBM). The DPR immediately connected the student mass action who criticized the policy with the relevant ministry.
"When students question this, it is also immediately linked to the government, with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadali and Mr. Bahlil has also expressed his commitment to answering what is the demand of the public voiced by students and other groups," he said.
According to him, the DPR has carried out its function as an institution that represents public interests. He also said the government was committed to paying attention to the aspirations of the people.
"And of course the DPR will try to accompany it related to this commitment," he said.
The form of escort that Saan refers to is by way of working meetings in the council's equipment. In terms of the issue of rising fuel prices, Saan said that the Commission XII of the DPR was monitoring the policy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
"Regarding MBG, the head of BGN has conveyed the rearrangement of the MBG governance and also with all its descendants and of course it has listened to various inputs from the community," he said.
"Once again, the DPR will continue to try to monitor what the government's commitment is while also continuing to convey what are the problems in society," said Saanmelanjutkan.
