House of Representatives Chairman asks PLN to mitigate the impact of alternating power outages

JAKARTA - House of Representatives (DPR) Chair Puan Maharani encourages PT PLN (Persero) to mitigate the impact of alternating power outages that have disrupted community activities. He also asked PLN to explain transparently to the public about the reasons for the long alternating power outages that occurred on Java Island.

"I have noted that there are alternating blackouts in a number of areas on the island of Java due to coal supply disruptions and technical disruptions at the power plant. This of course causes inconvenience for the affected community," said Puan, Monday, June 22.

Puan appreciated PLN for apologizing to the public regarding this rotating power outage. However, he reminded PLN's commitment to reducing rotating power outages should not stop the evaluation process.

He also asked PLN to mitigate the impact that arises due to alternating power outages, especially mitigating the most affected groups of people and sectors.

"The root of the problem causing the widespread disruption for the community must be known transparently. I also appeal that PLN can mitigate the impact of alternating power outages and protect the interests of directly affected communities. Starting from SMEs, industry, hospitals, and the public service sector," he said.

As is known, the alternating power outage has been taking place for the past few weeks on the island of Java. The duration is quite long and often makes people restless because the power outage disrupts daily activities, to the point of impacting economic issues.

PT PLN (Persero) has apologized to the public for the rotational power outage on Java Island. PLN revealed that the disruption of the supply of medium-range medium-range coal was one of the factors that affected the electricity supply.

In addition, PLN is also said to face technical constraints at two large steam power plants (PLTU) owned by private electricity companies or independent power producers (IPP) which are partners of the Company.

Today, the President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo met with President Prabowo Subianto to report on this issue of alternating power outages. The PLN President Director also said that alternating power outages on Java Island can now be reduced because the electricity system in Java is starting to improve.
