Keir Starmer to step down soon, Labour leadership election process to start on July 9

JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the election of the new Labor Party chairman will begin on July 9 and end before the British Parliament returns to session in September.

Starmer said this on Monday after he announced his resignation as the head of the political party.

"I will ask the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party to set the registration schedule for the candidate for chairman to open on July 9 and be completed before the summer recess. If the election takes place, it will be ensured that there is a new chairman who will be inaugurated before parliament returns to session in September," Starmer said at Downing Street, London, England, reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Monday, June 22.

Starmer said he would remain as prime minister until the election process was complete and ensure a smooth handover of power.
