Viral Stacked Water on Social Media, Is it True to Drink Water Mixed with Supplements Claiming to be Healthier?
JAKARTA - Not long ago, the trend of drinking water with stacked water that is claimed to be healthier went viral on social media. Stacked water is the consumption of plain water mixed with various supplements.
This trend was popularized by a food scientist and content creator, Jeffrey Ma. He said that stacked water can provide hydration and consumption of supplements more easily and fun.
"If you can make hydration and taking supplements easier and more fun, why should you be satisfied with ordinary hydration," said Jeffrey, quoted from Vogue Arabia, on Monday, June 22, 2026.
To make stacked water is quite simple, namely by mixing white water into a glass or tumbler with vitamins, minerals, or other supplements such as collagen to electrolytes. Some people also commonly add fruit, soda, and mint leaves.
However, is it true that daily water consumption with stacked water is healthier? Senior nephrologist, Dr. Lohitaksha H. Suratkal, said that drinking regular water with enough can hydrate the body.
"If it's just hydration, drinking plain water is more than enough," said Suratkal.
Stacked water may be beneficial in certain conditions. For example, in people who regularly exercise at high intensity.
"People who exercise at high intensity usually need electrolytes," he added.
However, it is recommended to consult first if you want to consume stacked water with a mixture of supplements. This is because some additional ingredients can cause excessive intake of calories, salt, or certain nutrients in the body.
Not only that, to date, there has been no research proving that stacked water is better than ordinary water. The benefits still depend on the type of ingredients added, the amount, and the needs of each individual are very different.
