Two Traffic Police Attacked by OTK Armed with Sharp Weapons

JAMBI - Two members of the Jambi Police Traffic Unit (Satlantas) were attacked by unknown people (OTK) armed with sharp weapons while on duty to regulate traffic in the Angso Duo Market area, Jambi City, Monday morning, resulting in one personnel injured.

Head of Public Relations of the Jambi Police, Kombes Erlan Munaji, said the incident occurred at around 06.45 WIB at Simpang Angso Duo, in front of T-One Hotel, Jalan Sultan Thaha, Jambi City.

"The members are currently still in the field pursuing the perpetrators," said Erlan as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 22.

Based on the testimony of witnesses at the location, the perpetrator came walking from the direction of Gentala Arasy to Angso Duo Market. The perpetrator was not wearing sandals and carried a long samurai-style sharp weapon and two blades.

"The perpetrator was walking from below without wearing sandals, carrying a long samurai-type sharp weapon and two knives," said Ansori, a trader around the scene of the incident.

Upon arrival at the intersection, the perpetrator allegedly immediately chased two Satlantas members who were conducting traffic arrangements. One of the members was then hit by a sharp weapon.

"I saw the perpetrator suddenly attack the two policemen, then ran towards the parking area of the market. One of the policemen was hit by a sharp weapon of a long size," said Ansori.

In the incident, Brigpol S.T. suffered injuries to the palm of his right hand while trying to avoid the attacker's attack. Meanwhile, Bripka B.T. suffered a cut on his left knee after falling while being chased by the perpetrator.

Both victims are currently undergoing treatment at the Bhayangkara Hospital, Jambi.

After carrying out the attack, the perpetrator fled using a motorcycle. Until now, the identity and motive of the perpetrator are still under investigation.

The police have carried out an investigation at the crime scene, asked for information from a number of witnesses, and carried out a pursuit based on the characteristics obtained from residents.

The incident caused traffic flow around the Angso Duo Market to be stalled and made traders panic. The area is one of the points with heavy traffic activity during the working and school hours.

The Jambi Police appealed to the public who have information regarding the whereabouts of the perpetrator to immediately report to the nearest police station.

Police ensured that the identity of the reporter would be kept secret.

"Jambi Police will take firm action against the perpetrators in accordance with applicable laws," said Erlan.
