Jakarta Anniversary Gift: JIS Light Rail Station and JIS-Ancol Bridge Officially Operational

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the Ministry of Transportation inaugurated the operation of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Commuter Line Train Station. The DKI Provincial Government also simultaneously connects the JIS-Ancol bridge. Both were inaugurated to coincide with the 499th Anniversary of the City of Jakarta.

This inauguration is an effort by the government to overcome the main problems of JIS which have often emerged every time there is a concert or football match, namely the limited access to transportation and parking.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the activation of the KRL station and the connecting bridge was a "birthday gift" for Jakarta ahead of its five-hundredth birthday.

"On behalf of the DKI Jakarta Government, I would like to thank you for the 499th birthday gift in the form of the activation of JIS and Ancol, including this KRL station, and also the bridge that connects," said Pramono, Monday, June 22.

According to Pramono, he believes that the JIS and Ancol areas will become one of the centers of community activities in the future. Therefore, public transportation access is an important factor to support visitor mobility.

"If we can activate this, we can connect JIS-Ancol, then whoever wants to watch a concert, wants to watch football, wants to go to Ancol, the choice is whether to take the KRL or take Transjabodetabek or Transjakarta," he said.

Pramono assessed that the existence of the JIS Station and the connecting bridge would expand public transportation options for the community while encouraging equitable development in Jakarta, especially the northern region.

In addition to being connected to the KRL service, visitors to JIS can also use the Ancol parking area before continuing their journey to the stadium via the newly inaugurated crossing bridge.

"I hope that this will be the starting point or starting point for the most optimal use of JIS. Because as we know, the main problem in JIS is the problem of parking, the problem of transportation," said Pramono.

"So with this KRL, then also Transjabodetabek and people can now park at Ancol, from Ancol it is only about 300-400 meters to JIS, this will reduce a lot of traffic that has been a problem if there are concerts or football matches," he continued.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said the operation of the JIS Station was a new milestone in strengthening public transportation services in North Jakarta.

"This is a milestone of service, one of our public services, especially in Jakarta, where with the inauguration or activation of the JIS station, it is hoped that the public, especially in the DKI Jakarta and North Jakarta areas, will be more connected to public services, public transportation," said Dudy.

He hopes that the presence of the station can encourage people to switch to using mass transportation, especially trains. Answering questions about the status of the station, Dudy explained that the facilities that are currently operating will continue to be developed until they become permanent stations.

"As of today, this station is active and can serve passengers. We will develop this as a permanent station. We hope that in the next year it will also be completed," said Dudy.

Currently, the JIS Station is still using one platform. The Ministry of Transportation together with related parties will continue to develop facilities and infrastructure to increase service capacity as the number of train users to the JIS and Ancol area increases.
