Arab League Reiterates Rejection of UNRWA Dissolution
JAKARTA - The Arab League reaffirmed its rejection of any plan aimed at dissolving the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), stressing that the issue of Palestinian refugees remains at the core of the Palestinian struggle.
As reported by ANTARA from WAFA, Monday, June 22, the General Secretariat of the Arab League on the occasion of World Refugee Day, in its statement, reaffirmed its opposition to all forms of expulsion of the Palestinian people, both from their land and from the Palestinian territory.
His party also warned of the serious impact of Israel's plan to carry out forced expulsion of Palestinians as well as the consequences for security and stability in the Middle East region.
The Arab League underlined the importance of strengthening protection for refugees, guaranteeing access to basic rights, and supporting host countries and communities that continue to bear an increasing burden by hosting large numbers of refugees.
In addition, his party also reiterated the important role of UNRWA, urging adequate financial, political, and legal support so that the UN agency can continue to fulfill its mandate.
Furthermore, the Arab League also rejects any efforts to reduce, remove, replace, or change the role of UNRWA, as well as rejecting the change in the legal status of Palestinian refugees.
The Arab League also urged the international community to continue to support humanitarian organizations dealing with refugee affairs, especially UNRWA and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to address the growing humanitarian challenges facing the Arab region.
