Marc Marquez Getting Closer to Bezzecchi after Winning at Brno MotoGP

JAKARTA - Seven-time world champion Marc Marquez has managed to narrow the points gap with Marco Bezzecchi after he emerged victorious in the 2026 Czech Republic MotoGP race at the weekend.

Marquez, who strengthened the Ducati team, managed to take advantage of Bezzecchi's absence in the main race with the first finish. A result that makes his hopes of retaining the world championship title even greater.

Bezzecchi, who leads the 2026 MotoGP standings, was not allowed to take part in the race in Brno for hitting a track official (marshal) after he crashed in the Sprint Race session on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The beating made Bezzecchi also given a heavy sanction not to participate in the race. That is clearly a big loss for the rider who is actually on a positive track to win the world championship this year.

Aprilia has appealed to cancel Bezzecchi's sanction, but it was rejected. The rejection made the rider fail to add points to strengthen his position at the top of the standings.

On the other hand, the victory recorded in Brno made Marquez officially begin to enter the ranks of the hunt for the 2026 MotoGP title after an uninspiring start to the season.

The racer nicknamed The Baby Alien started the race from fourth position, but successfully fended off the resistance of Ai Ogura (Trackhouse) who started from pole as well as his teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, who started the race in third place.

This is the second consecutive victory for Marquez. He previously also managed to climb to the highest podium at the Hungarian MotoGP which took place at Balaton Park.

These two latest results are also a strong signal that Marquez is serious in his mission to defend the world championship title he won in the 2025 season. If he manages to maintain his slick performance, the chances of taking over the top position are very open.

Marquez now has a total of 140 points from the nine races that have been held so far this season. This number makes him only 40 points behind Bezzecchi who is still in the top position.

The next race will take place at the Assen Circuit, Netherlands, on June 26-28, 2026. In order to widen the lead at the top of the standings, Bezzecchi must be able to grab as many points as possible there and hope that Marquez is not in the best form.
