Perry : Transformation of MSMEs is the Key to Creating Jobs and Strengthening the People's Economy

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo emphasized that the Integrated MSME Entrepreneurship Transformation program is a strategic step to strengthen the people's economy while creating wider employment opportunities for the community.

According to Perry, the success of the program can only be achieved through synergy and collaboration of various parties and the development of MSMEs cannot be run by one institution alone, but requires close cooperation between the government, Bank Indonesia, and various strategic partners.

"This is a program that we must continue to do in synergy.

Because it cannot be done by one ministry alone. It cannot be done by Bank Indonesia alone. But it must also be together. Therefore, this program is a tangible form of our joint commitment. Our joint commitment, united we stand, and united we advance and become more successful," he said at the Kick Off Program for the Transformation of Integrated UMKM Entrepreneurship in 2026, Monday, June 22.

He explained that Bank Indonesia together with the government and strategic partners is committed to making MSMEs the main foundation of the people's economy and one of the important pillars of national economic growth.

Perry conveyed that commitment was realized through an integrated entrepreneurship training program, business assistance, and capacity building for MSMEs so that they could develop and open more jobs.

He added that there were three main reasons why this program was so important, namely first, the current world is still facing various global challenges, ranging from geopolitical conflicts, international economic and financial uncertainties, to trade wars that have the potential to affect economic stability.

According to him, in this situation, Indonesia needs to strengthen economic independence so that it is still able to grow in the midst of global dynamics.

"We have to be more independent. Whatever happens globally, we have to move on. If young people, stop the plug, move on. That's number one. That's how we become independent, advanced," he explained.

He added that the second, namely MSMEs, has a very large role in the national economy, and currently there are more than 65 million MSMEs in Indonesia, the majority of which are small-scale businesses and the largest labor absorber.

In addition, Perry said that many MSMEs are managed by women, so that their existence also contributes to improving family welfare and the development of future generations.

According to Perry, strengthening MSMEs not only has an impact on increasing economic growth, but also opens up employment opportunities, improves people's welfare, and supports the education and future of business actors' families.

Furthermore, the third, Perry said that the development of MSMEs is part of the national development agenda, namely the program is in line with the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and supports President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita vision, especially in strengthening the people's economy as a foundation for inclusive and sustainable development.
