PDIP Position Questioned by Prabowo Coalition Political Party, This is AHY's Response

JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said that the political dynamics that have occurred recently are normal and natural, when responding to a journalist's question about the issue of PDIP's political position which was touched upon by a number of politicians.

He also respects all political parties that have their own attitudes and views. According to him, all political parties have agendas and interests, but national interests must be placed above partisan interests.

"Our focus is on the economy. We want to ensure that economic growth is maintained, people's purchasing power is maintained, employment opportunities are open, poverty can be reduced, and inequality can be suppressed," said AHYseusai attending a meeting with the DPR Budget Agency, Monday, June 22.

The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development said the Democratic Party also has its own goals and interests when it is a party that runs the government, as well as when it is in opposition.

When it becomes the ruling party, according to him, the responsibility is to ensure that the government is successful and able to realize political promises to the people.

Meanwhile, when he was in the opposition, according to him, the Democratic Party at that time was tasked with providing constructive views and criticism and presenting solutions, not dividing the nation.

"And it's not to discredit as if everything is wrong," he added.

However, when there is a true public aspiration, according to him, the government must also be able to listen and evaluate. He also said that Indonesian democracy would be healthy if the principle of checks and balances continued to be maintained.

"Today, the Democrats together with the government of President Prabowo Subianto want to continue to monitor so that government programs and policies really benefit the people, the economy grows with justice, and various other major agendas," he said.

Previously, the Chairman of the PKB Faction of the DPR, Jazilul Fawaid, hoped that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) would take a firm stance on its political position, either choosing to form a coalition in the government or becoming the opposition.

He conveyed this in relation to the issue of one of the PDIP cadre figures participating in a demonstration with students in Jakarta, recently. For this reason, according to him, PDIP does not need to be "gray" about its political position.

"If you really want to be outside the government, please. But don't be gray. That's what I mean," said Jazilul.
