Hendarto's sentencing hearing held today, ordered to pay Rp1.6 trillion in compensation

JAKARTA - The director and beneficial owner of several companies belonging to the Bara Jaya Utama Group (BJU Group), Hendarto, underwent a verdict hearing for the alleged LPEI corruption case at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, Monday, June 22.

"The trial with the defendant Hendarto (LPEI case), with the agenda of the verdict," said PN Jakpus spokesman Andi Saputra to Antara, Monday morning.

The trial is scheduled to be held at 10.00 WIB in the Muhammad Hatta Ali room, chaired by Chief Judge Brelly Yuniar Dien.

In the case of alleged corruption in the provision of credit facilities by the Indonesian Export Financing Institution (LPEI) in 2014-2016, Hendarto was charged with a prison sentence of 8 years, a fine of Rp. 500 million, a fine of 140 days in prison, and paying compensation of Rp. 1.6 trillion and 14.95 million US dollars (USD) in lieu of a prison sentence of 6 years.

Previously, he was charged with causing state losses of IDR 1.06 trillion and US$ 49.88 million.

The state's losses are suspected to have occurred because Hendarto has committed an act against the law by enriching himself to the amount of the state's losses in the alleged corruption case related to the provision of credit facilities by LPEI.

In addition to enriching himself, Hendarto's actions are also suspected of enriching several other parties, namely Dwi Rp7 billion and 227 thousand US dollars, Arif 50 thousand US dollars, and Kukuh Rp500 million and 120 thousand US dollars.

The illegal acts committed by Hendarto together with the LPEI officials, among others, are using financing facilities from LPEI to finance plantation businesses located in protected and conservation forests.

Hendarto is charged with corruption together with the Head of Financing Division I LPEI Kukuh Wirawan, LPEI Executive Director Ngalim Sawega, LPEI Executive Director I Dwi Wahyudi, LPEI Executive Director III Basuki Setyadjid, LPEI Executive Director IV Arif Setiawan, and LPEI Executive Director V Omar Baginda Pane, which were prosecuted separately.

For his actions, Hendarto is threatened with a criminal penalty as provided for in Article 603 jo. Article 20 letter c jo. Article 126 paragraph (1) jo. Article 618 of the National Criminal Code or Article 3 jo. Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001.
