3 Big Demonstrations in Jakarta Today, the Police Prepare Traffic Flow Diversion

JAKARTA - Three large-scale mass actions were held at several points in Central Jakarta on Monday, June 22. To anticipate the density and maintain security, the police prepared situational traffic engineering around the Monas area, the Horse Statue, and the DPR/MPR Building.

The police deployed a total of 3,761 joint personnel from the Polda Metro Jaya, the Central Jakarta Metro Police, and the police ranks to secure the series of activities.

Head of Public Relations Section of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Erlyn Sumitro, said that traffic diversion would be implemented according to the conditions on the ground, especially if there was a mass or vehicle buildup around the action location.

"Traffic engineering will be applied on a situational basis. If there is congestion or a need to divert traffic around the action point, officers will immediately take action while prioritizing the safety of the participants in the demonstration and all road users," said Erlyn, Monday morning.

Based on the notification received by the police, the first action was held by the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PB PMII) in the Monas area starting at 10.00 WIB. Furthermore, the National Board of Directors of the National Coalition for Agrarian Reform (DPN KNARA) held an action in front of the DPR/MPR Building around 11.00 WIB.

Meanwhile, the largest action is centered in the Horse Statue area, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta. Around 50,000 people who are members of the Jakarta Community Alliance are scheduled to participate in a peaceful action to voice support for the continuation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.

The large number of participants is expected to have an impact on traffic flow in the central government area and a number of major roads in Central Jakarta. The police also anticipate vehicle slowdowns due to mass movement and the potential for vehicle congestion around the action point.

Erlyn said the presence of thousands of personnel in the field was aimed at ensuring that all activities took place safely and orderly without disturbing community activities.

"The presence of members in the field is solely to serve and ensure that the delivery of opinions takes place safely, orderly, and does not cause disruption for people who are active around the location," he said.

People who will pass through the Monas area, the Horse Statue, and the DPR/MPR are urged to adjust the route and anticipate potential traffic congestion during the event.
