Jackie Chan Reveals New Hope After Three Dreams for Chinese Cinema
JAKARTA - Jackie Chan again talks about the roots that shaped his career. The 71-year-old action star said China gave him stories, values, and direction from the beginning of his film career.
Gulf News reported on Saturday, June 20, citing Jackie Chan's Instagram post, the actor shared a number of photos from various places he had visited in China over the years. Among them is the Great Wall of China in Beijing in 2004, the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center in 2010, and Deshengbao in Shanxi in 2019.
The old photos took him back to the early days of working in the film world.
"Looking at these old photos, I can still feel it. The exhaustion, the excitement, and the youth I left behind on the set somewhere in China," Jackie wrote.
He said people in various countries knew him by the name "Jackie". However, the further he traveled, the stronger his memories of his place of origin.
"The film gave me that name and allowed me to share stories across countries. But the further I travel, the more I think about where it all started. It was China that shaped me," said Jackie.
According to Jackie, values such as kindness, perseverance, and sincerity were ingrained in him long before he became a global star.
He also recalled three hopes he brought when he first entered the film industry.
"When I started, I had three hopes. For Chinese cinema, for Chinese filmmakers, and for the next generation," he said.
Now, Jackie says he has a fourth hope. He wants more people from different countries to come directly to China to get to know the culture and stories he has always loved.
The statement shows that Jackie Chan still places China at the center of his long journey, from his youth on the set to his name being known on the world stage.
