Vance Arrives in Switzerland, US-Iran Begins Talks with Pakistan and Qatar Mediation

JAKARTA - Vice President of the United States JD Vance said that he would be in Switzerland for one to two days to hold talks with the Iranian delegation.

"I can only be there for a day or two," Vance told reporters before his departure, quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 21.

Previously, Vance had canceled a trip to Switzerland, the location of the initial meeting between representatives of the United States and Iran, which also involved mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, which was scheduled to take place on June 19.

On Thursday, June 18, Vance said his presence depended on the arrival time of the Iranian delegation in Switzerland. Then on Saturday, June 20, the Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Iranian delegation had arrived in the country.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif stated that the Prime Minister along with a high-level delegation had departed from Islamabad for Switzerland to attend talks scheduled for Sunday.

This meeting is part of international diplomatic efforts to reopen the path of dialogue between the United States and Iran amid increasing regional tensions and involving the active role of a number of mediator countries.
