Minister of Transportation: Government Discounts on Transportation Tariffs during School Holidays 2026
JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the government had again given a discount on cross-mode transportation fares during the 2026 school holidays to increase people's mobility and purchasing power, support tourism, and encourage regional economic growth.
"In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, to maintain people's purchasing power and price control, the government will again implement a policy of discounted transportation tariffs during the 2026 school holidays and the 2026/2027 Christmas and New Year holidays," said the Minister of Transportation in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.
He said the policy was a form of the government's commitment to providing safe, secure, and comfortable transportation services, which can also be accessed by the public during periods of increased mobility.
Dudy said that through this policy, it is hoped that it will ease the travel costs of the community, as well as encourage an increase in people's movement and economic activity during the holiday period.
According to him, the policy is a form of the government's presence in providing convenience to the public to travel at a more affordable cost.
"We hope that this incentive can be optimally utilized by the public, while providing a positive impact on the transportation, tourism, and national economy sectors," said the Minister of Transportation.
The policy is contained in the Joint Decree of the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Finance, and the Head of the Nusantara Power Investment Management Agency (Danantara) regarding the assignment to state-owned enterprises in the transportation sector to provide transportation fare discounts.
The regulation is the basis for implementing the economic stimulus program through the provision of discounted transportation tariffs during the 2026 school holidays, Christmas 2026, and New Year 2027 to support community mobility and national economic activities.
The policy of discounted transportation fares during the 2026 school holidays includes a 30 percent discount for all commercial train services in the economy class from June 20 to July 5, 2026; a 30 percent discount for all sections of the economy class passenger ferry route from June 20 to August 15, 2026.
Then a 100 percent discount on port services for pedestrian passengers, vehicles of Group II and IVA, and 14 ports (7 lanes) of crossing transportation from June 20 to July 5, 2026.
In addition, a 100 percent discount on the Value Added Tax on Government Burden (PPN DTP) for scheduled economy class aircraft from June 24 to July 5, 2026.
The cross-over transport crossings that receive discounted fares include the Merak-Bakauheni, Ketapang-Gilimanuk, Lembar-Padangbai, Kayangan-Pototano, Tanjung Uban-Telaga Punggur, Ajibata-Ambarita, and Sape-Labuan Bajo routes.
The Minister of Transportation added that safety, security, and comfort aspects remained the main priority in the provision of transportation services during the holiday period.
