Medan, Jakarta to Surabaya Potentially Rain Today, Jayawijaya Foggy

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that most major cities in Indonesia are expected to be hit by light rain at the weekend on Sunday, June 21.

BMKG weather practitioner Sastia said that the areas expected to have light rain were Medan City (North Sumatra), Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), Padang (West Sumatra), Jambi, Bengkulu, Palembang (South Sumatra), Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands), Serang (Banten), Jakarta, Semarang (Central Java), Surabaya (East Java), Palangka Raya (Central Kalimantan), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), and Samarinda (East Kalimantan).

"Then light rain in the city of Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Palu (Central Sulawesi), Sorong (South West Papua), and Nabire (Central Papua)," he said in a statement, Sunday, June 21, quoted by Antara.

He said that there was the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in the city of Pekanbaru (Riau), Pontianak (West Kalimantan), and Tanjung Selor (North Kalimantan). In addition, there is the potential for lightning in the city of Bandar Lampung, then the potential for cloudy and thick clouds in the city of Bandar Aceh, Bandung (West Java), and Yogyakarta.

Sastia also said there was the potential for moderate rain in the city of Mamuju (West Sulawesi), as well as light rain in the city of Mataram (NTB), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Palu Sorong, and Nabire.

Then the potential is cloudy to thick clouds in the city of Denpasar (Bali), Makassar (South Sulawesi), Kendari (South Sulawesi), Gorontalo, Manado (North Sulawesi), Ternate (North Maluku), Ambon (Maluku), Manokwari (West Papua), Jayapura (Papua), and Merauke (South Papua).

"And the potential for smoke or fog is in Jayawijaya City (Papua Mountains)," he said.
