OIC Warns of Danger of Israel's Plan to Change the Status of Hebron City
JAKARTA - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has warned of the dangers posed by the Israeli occupation authorities' plan to change the political, historical, and legal status of Hebron City.
According to OKI, the latest step was the decision of the Israeli Minister of Finance to revoke the authority of the Hebron City Government over the Ibrahimi Mosque, the Old City, and the surrounding area as well as to cancel the Hebron Agreement.
The OKI General Secretariat emphasized that Israel, as an occupying power, does not have sovereignty over the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including Hebron City and its holy sites.
The organization also stressed that all religious, historical, heritage, and cultural sites in the region are under the protection of international law in accordance with relevant UN and UNESCO resolutions.
OKI again urges the international community to fulfill its responsibility in maintaining and protecting the Ibrahimi Mosque, the Old City of Hebron, as well as historical sites in the region.
According to OKI, these areas are an integral part of the territory of the State of Palestine and its cultural heritage, which is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in Danger.
